Instagram Removing Story Post Sharing

Instagram Killing Story Post Sharing

Instagram announced they’re removing the ability to share feed posts directly to Stories. Change goes live next month.

The official line is they want “more original Story content.” Translation: they want you making new stuff, not recycling posts.

What’s Actually Changing

The “Add post to your Story” overlay feature is going away. You can still share posts via DMs. Reels can still go to Stories. It’s specifically the feed-post-to-Story flow that’s dying.

Why Creators Are Annoyed

Sharing to Stories was how a lot of people drove initial engagement on new posts. Post something, share to Story with “new post!” sticker, get followers to tap through. Basic but it worked.

Instagram’s suggestion? Use their “Boost” feature instead. Which costs money. Coincidence, I’m sure.

What Now

Create original Story content that references your post. Screenshot with commentary. Behind-the-scenes of the post. Just talking about it to camera. More effort but probably better engagement anyway.

Or just accept that organic reach on Instagram keeps getting worse and adjust your strategy accordingly.
