How to Add Highlights on Instagram
How to Add Highlights on Instagram
Instagram Highlights allow you to showcase your best Stories directly on your profile. They’re a great way to keep your favorite Stories alive, even after the 24-hour lifespan of a typical Instagram Story. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you add and manage Highlights effectively.
Step 1: Creating a Story
Before you can add a Highlight, you need to create a Story. Open Instagram and tap on your profile picture at the top left of the screen. This opens the camera. Take a photo or video, or upload one from your gallery. You can add filters, stickers, text, or drawings as needed. Once you’re happy with your Story, tap the “Your Story” button at the bottom of the screen to share it.
Step 2: View Your Story
After sharing your Story, you can view it by tapping on your profile picture again. This is where you can add the Story to a Highlight.
Step 3: Adding to Highlight
Once you’re viewing your Story, look for the “Highlight” button at the bottom, represented by a heart icon with the word “Highlight” below it. Tap this button to proceed. You’ll be prompted to add the Story to an existing Highlight or create a new one.
Step 4: Creating a New Highlight
To create a new Highlight, tap the “New” option. Instagram will prompt you to name your Highlight. Choose a name that’s relevant and easy to remember. Once you’ve named your Highlight, tap the “Add” button. Your Story is now part of a Highlight and will be visible on your profile as a circle under your bio.
Step 5: Adding to an Existing Highlight
If you’re adding your Story to an existing Highlight, simply select the Highlight you want to add it to. Tap the Highlight name and the Story will be added immediately.
Step 6: Managing Highlights
You can manage your Highlights at any time. Go to your profile and long-press on the Highlight you want to edit or delete. A menu will appear with options to edit the Highlight, including changing the cover photo or the Highlight name. You can also remove Stories from the Highlight if needed.
Step 7: Changing Highlight Covers
You might want to customize the appearance of your Highlight covers to make your profile more visually appealing. To change a Highlight cover, go to your profile and long-press the Highlight. Tap on “Edit Highlight,” then “Edit Cover.” Choose a photo from your Story archive or upload a new image from your gallery. Adjust the positioning if necessary, then confirm the changes.
Step 8: Utilizing Story Archive
Instagram automatically saves your Stories in an archive. If you want to add a past Story to a Highlight, go to your profile and tap the three horizontal lines in the top right corner. Select “Archive” from the menu. Browse through your archived Stories and select the one you want to add to a Highlight. Tap the Highlight button and choose an existing Highlight or create a new one.
