Adding Highlights to Your Instagram

Video Making One advice has gotten complicated with all the outdated tips and platform changes flying around. Here’s what actually works in 2026.

Stories disappear in 24 hours. Highlights don’t. That’s the whole thing.

Making One

Post a Story. While viewing it, hit the heart icon that says Highlight. Give it a name. Done.

Or go to an old Story in your Archive and add it after the fact.

What Goes In There

Stuff people actually want to see when they visit your profile.

FAQs. Portfolio work. Product info. Travel highlights. About me stuff.

NOT random daily stories from Tuesday. Nobody cares about your lunch from three months ago.

The Cover Situation

Default covers look messy. Just a random frame from the first Story.

Make actual covers. Icons on solid backgrounds. Takes five minutes and looks way better.

Upload your cover as a Story first. Add it to the Highlight. Set it as cover. Remove it from the Highlight if you don’t want it in the actual content.

Editing

Long-press any Highlight. You can rename it, change the cover, add or remove Stories.

Don’t let them get cluttered. Ruthless editing. Five solid Highlights beats fifteen half-assed ones.

Why Bother

New people visiting your profile? They check Highlights. It’s your intro. Your “here’s what I’m about” reel.

First impressions matter. Make them count.
