Video Aspect Ratio advice has gotten complicated with all the outdated tips and platform changes flying around. Here’s what actually works in 2026.
TikTok video specs. Get these wrong and your video looks bad or gets cropped. Here’s the quick reference.
Aspect Ratio
9:16 is the format. Vertical video. Full screen on phones. That’s the whole point of TikTok.
1:1 square works but wastes screen space. 16:9 horizontal is possible but looks tiny.
Resolution
1080 x 1920 pixels is ideal. HD quality, fast upload, looks sharp.
4K is overkill. Gets compressed anyway. Wastes upload time.
720p is minimum for acceptable quality. Lower than that looks pixelated.
File Size
Maximum 287.6MB for videos over 60 seconds. Smaller for shorter content.
MP4 or MOV formats. Other formats might not upload properly.
Length
Up to 10 minutes now. But shorter performs better. 15-60 seconds is the sweet spot.
Watch time matters more than length. Keep people watching the whole thing.
Safe Zones
Keep text and important stuff in the center. Edges get covered by UI elements.
Bottom 20% is especially dangerous. Like and comment buttons sit there.
Frame Rate
30fps standard. 60fps for fast motion if you want. Most people can’t tell the difference.
Audio
TikTok compresses audio. Don’t obsess over perfect sound quality. Clear and audible is enough.
